The Bible is God's word

God inspired the Bible for us to read.   The word 'inspire' comes from the Latin words 'in' and 'spirare', and means literally 'to breathe into'.   We have the words 'spirit' and 'inspiration' which come from the same source.

Read 2 Peter 1:20-21.   We learn from these verses that the men who wrote the Bible did not just make up what they wrote, or even just wrote from their own experiences.   They were moved to write by the Holy Spirit.   What they wrote was breathed into by God, so that we can rely completely on what was written.

The Bible covers a period of about 4000 years, and was written over a period of about 1500 years.   In spite of this, it is consistent all the way through.   This is because, although it was written by many writers, they were all inspired by God.
